American Federation of Teachers (AFT)
If you are a member of the American Federation of
Teachers they will pay you to place a banner advertisement on your
website. Compensation depends on the size of your local and ranges
from $20 to $60 per month for a banner ad. (Total compensation for

The American Federation of Teachers will also pay
your local to run a monthly advertisement in your paper newsletter.
Again the compensation depends on the size of your local and ranges
from $20 to $60 per month for one ad. (Total compensation for the year
$200 to $600 for 10 publications in a typical school year). For information

Teachers (NYSUT), they will pay your local $100 to run a bimonthly
advertisement in your paper newsletter. (Total compensation for the

Save Money
If you US Mail your newsletter to your retirees,
placing it on your website can save you postage and mailing fees. We
went from US Mailing out 200 newsletters per month to 25 per month,
saving us $70 in postage and envelopes per month (over $700 per year),
as well as the time spent stuffing envelopes.
Other Paid Ads?
With a bit of work, a local could easily have paying
advertisements from local businesses, insurance salespeople and investment
brokers.
Business Sites - The Goal is to Generate Income
Business sites generally sell a product of some kind.
Business sites can also sell advertising space to generate revenue.
While it sounds easy to put up a business site and sell a product --
once again the "devil is in the details." If you are thinking
of selling equestrian clothing, for example, you can't just make a
website and expect the world to beat a path to your Internet business.

"GOOGLE" the term "equestrian clothing" you get
about 615,000 hits. YOUR website will be "somewhere" in those
hits -- but how are potential customers going to find YOU among the
other 615,000 websites??
There are ways to generate revenue from a business
website -- a good webmaster will help you get started.
